Case Study 2:
Beneficiary Review
Deidre was a client who died following a prolonged illness at only 40 years old. Fortunately, we had taken the time to review her finances and estate plan before she passed away. However, her husband needed extra guidance in the months that followed. He was raising two young girls on his own and became overwhelmed by his new financial responsibilities. Our team got to work and helped him claim Deidre’s government and life insurance proceeds, along with her pension and survivor benefits. We assisted in claiming Social Security survivor income for their minor children and were able to create a college savings fund for each child. With insurance proceeds and survivor pension income we constructed a plan to pay down the mortgage, replace a portion of Deidre’s lost income and retitle the house – all without assistance from an attorney. Finally, we were able to work with the husband’s attorney to finalize the new financial and estate plan for him and the children.
